LSAT preparation is important for anyone who is looking to get into law school. After all, a good LSAT score will make one more likely to get into a law school. There are all sorts of different LSAT review books that can be useful. But there will also be plenty that will not be as good. Some of them won’t use questions that actually show up in the LSAT and others will only focus on certain aspects of the test. Some books are also outdated. There are some things to watch for LSAT preparation in books for the LSAT test.

A book that has actual LSAT questions should be used for preparation. Real questions will come from books authorized by Law Services. A notice on the copyright page of the LSAT review book will notify whether or not authentic questions were used. The Law School Admission Council will have full approval of books that use real LSAT questions.

Bad books that work with LSAT review strategies will talk about general strategies to use in the test. They will not give any emphasis on actual items that can be found in the test. This will be a clear sign that the author of the LSAT book does not have enough information on questions and ideas that will be covered in the LSAT test itself, and this can really hurt LSAT preparation.

Some books will put more of an emphasis on certain parts of the test. For instance, some will emphasize the writing parts of the test. These books should be avoided because the writing sample does not have any scoring methods like the rest of the test does. A good review book will only have a short description of the writing parts and will not go into detail. When a book goes into heavy detail it’s just a way of compensating for a lack of knowledge of other parts of the test.

Reasoning methods should be used in LSAT review books. The logical reasoning, cause and effect and other forms of reasoning should be used in review books for LSAT preparation. This is because the test will require plenty of strategies that use these methods of reasoning.

There are some books that talk about out of date strategies that are no longer covered in the LSAT test. Venn diagrams, family tree systems and numerical classification systems are not covered in the LSAT test today. Any book that goes over these strategies should be avoided.

Those are all important tips to use for finding LSAT review books. Good review books for LSAT preparation should have a full emphasis on all parts of the test that will be graded and should feature actual questions that are used in the test. Books that cover out of date systems should be avoided. By using these tips it will be easier to find a better book.
